OUR BEGINNING
Romain Creative Media was founded in 2015 by seasoned media producer Renata Romain, whose passion for storytelling and commitment to representing marginalized voices led her to create a space where culture, history, and identity intersect on screen. Renata began her career in 2001 at Emmis Communications, producing for WRKS 98.7 Kiss FM and Smooth Jazz CD 101.9 before transitioning to Court TV.
From 2007 to 2017, Renata gained national prominence as a morning show host on Sirius XM’s Hip Hop Nation, where her engaging interviews with music superstars and Hollywood A-listers transformed the channel into one of Sirius XM’s most popular platforms. Her ability to gain trust and create a space where people felt safe to share their stories laid the foundation for her transition into documentary filmmaking.
BUILDING THE FRAMEWORK
During her time at NYU, she interned at Florentine Films with Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, gaining invaluable experience in historical documentary filmmaking. Her thesis film, ¿Y Tu Abuela Dónde Está?, exploring Afro-Caribbean identity, earned recognition from acclaimed filmmaker Sam Pollard, who served on her Master’s defense panel.
Recognizing the power of film to not only entertain but also educate and inspire, Renata launched Romain Creative Media to produce projects that elevate voices, challenge perspectives, and cultivate connection. Since its inception, Romain Creative Media has been dedicated to crafting content that resonates beyond the screen—amplifying stories that matter.

Guided by authenticity and creative integrity, we illuminate histories, cultures, and voices that have been overlooked or misrepresented. Our purpose is to inspire awareness, cultivate connection, and spark meaningful conversations that drive action and transformation.
In addition to producing films, Renata shares her expertise by teaching at Cuesta College, where she mentors the next generation of media professionals, empowering them to tell their own stories with depth and authenticity.
